oh my gosh this was one of my favorite fairy tales growing up!! i loved the fact that she stepped on the bread to keep her shoes clean. I CAN IDENTIFY WITH THAT.

How interesting. In some cultures, if not most, the bread symbolises hard labour and well-earned income (‘bread and butter’, ‘give us our daily bread’), and stepping on a loaf might signify as disrespect and downright contempt for those who made it. I should look this one up.
